Filmmaker walks in funeral director's shoes for latest project

Eric Boissonneault got more than he bargained for when he immersed himself in his work.

"Facing death head on makes you appreciate life a little bit more; come home and hug your loved ones a little more tightly," he says.

Boissonneault sits at his kitchen table with an embalming textbook at his elbow. He has spent the last couple of months interning at Martyn Funeral Home to deliver a realistic portrayal of an industry that sets the scene for his latest independent projects.

They All Dream of Angels is an unconventional feature-length film that relies on dark comedy, drama, romance and suspense to follow the chance meeting between a dying mortician and a damaged younger woman.

Boissonneault is developing that script this summer through his company Rain Dog Media, along with an unnamed television project about the funeral industry from the point of view of an intern.

His research hit close to home when he witnessed the funeral of a young suicide, surrounded by grieving family and friends.

"It's the only case that upset me.
